In a recent engagement with an organization driven and supported by memberships, we consulted strictly around data analytics. The clients goal was to enhance their member experience and engagement thus resulting in expansion of their member and sponsor base.
During the client review process, our data science team worked to capture the clients key thought components in order to understand the possibilities for analytics. Our team needed to know:
- What data they had
- Where the data was
- How to get the data
- The trustworthiness of the data
- What they wanted from the data
Several key data stewards from the client were engaged and work began to bring the data sources together for data preparation. As usual, there were multiple sources and formats used with their internal systems and the data preparation phase was kicked off.
During solution alignment, we discovered that some of the data collection methods had not yet been modernized and much of the expected data attributes were absent. Side by side with the client, we prepared the available data and utilized SAS Visual Analytics as a tool for helping us illuminate which areas needed the most attention.
Fortunately, the client’s team had enough clean data to indicate where some immediate gaps existed and was quickly able to perform some of the necessary process enhancements.
The next phase of the project engages business intelligence and analytics tools to make another run at the enhanced data repositories.
“Nobody knows the story of their data,” says Frank Daniels, a senior data scientist at Collier IT, “There are so many hidden nuggets of information contained in their databases that can help them gain meaning and value…we can help give that data a purpose.”
