Technology advancements must continuously by evaluated by CTOs, CIOs, CSOs, and CEOs and their enhancements must be aligned with the business needs to see where new technology implementations make sense from a customer, product, and profitability standpoint.
One of our customers provides medical health insurance across the central region of the United States and was faced with such an evaluation. Queries from data warehouses were starting to increase in times, slowing response to lines of business as well as customer demands for service. The Collier IT Architecture and Engineering team evaluated a number of possible solutions with the customer focusing on improving response times that were driving the line of business tools.
Our evaluations included server and network performance, hardware and software maintenance burdens, data migration methodologies, existing corporate skillsets, future growth requirements, sustainability, security, separate test / development / production environments, as well as solution management.
Two separate engineered solutions were selected. The benefit of these engineered solutions include moving the burden of maintenance to the vendor, a single browser user interface to manage all aspects of the solution, and a total separation of the various environments.
The technology enhancements of these solutions covered significant gains in processor, networking, and overall database query performance improvements.
Collier IT installed these solutions on a 60-day proof of concept allowing the customer to work directly with the solution and their data. Questions were asked and answered, challenges were discovered and addressed, and thresholds were set and not only met but were exceeded.
At the end of the proof of concept the equipment was removed by Collier IT and the customer selected it as their final choice. We performed the planning, architecture, installation, implementation, and assisted the customer with their data migration. Our Project Management team has performed a large number of these installations and their experience ensured a successful installation.
